{"id":943,"date":"2014-07-03T09:25:58","date_gmt":"2014-07-03T09:25:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/?p=943"},"modified":"2014-07-03T09:25:58","modified_gmt":"2014-07-03T09:25:58","slug":"vm_365-day-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/?p=943","title":{"rendered":"VM_365 Day 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is this Thanet&#8217;s earliest art?<\/p>\n<p>Following on from yesterdays image, today&#8217;s VM_365 picture is of some fragments of painted plaster found at the <a title=\"VM Abbey Farm Villa\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thanetarch.co.uk\/Virtual%20Museum\/3_Displays\/G6%20Displays\/Virtual_Museum_Gallery_6_Display_1_AbbeyFarm.html\" target=\"_blank\">Abbey Farm Roman Villa at Minster in Thanet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_961\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-961\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-961 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/VM-4.jpg\" alt=\"VM 4\" width=\"600\" height=\"419\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-961\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Painted wall plaster from Abbey Farm Villa, Minster-in-Thanet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We have over 7,500 pieces of painted wall and ceiling plaster from the site ranging in size from a few centimetres to roughly the size of an A4 page.<\/p>\n<p>As the technique used here was fresco, where the paint was applied directly to fresh plaster, we know that the artist who painted these designs must have been on the Isle of Thanet carrying out the work.
