{"id":2035,"date":"2014-12-29T16:00:58","date_gmt":"2014-12-29T16:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/?p=2035"},"modified":"2014-12-29T16:00:58","modified_gmt":"2014-12-29T16:00:58","slug":"vm_365-day-183-repaired-roman-pottery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/?p=2035","title":{"rendered":"VM_365 Day 183 Repaired Roman Pottery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2064\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/VM-183.jpg\" alt=\"VM 183\" width=\"600\" height=\"718\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The VM_365 image for Day 183 shows a sherd of samian pottery from the excavations at the site of a Roman Buildings at <a title=\"VM 365 Day 45 Roman Broadstairs 2 \u2013 Roman building at Fort House\" href=\"http:\/\/thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/?p=1228\" target=\"_blank\">Broadstairs<\/a> which has had a hole drilled through it, so that the vessel could be repaired.<\/p>\n<p>The sherd is from a first century Dragendorf 37 form bowl. made at the La Graufesenque workshops in Southern Gaul. The decoration on the bowl showed a bead border with a running animal motif, but it\u00a0 was poorly impressed.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel must have been broken at some point and the area represented by the\u00a0 sherd in the picture was drilled through so that a lead rivets\u00a0 could be used to repair it. Lead wire was passed through two holes and either joined in a loop, or the ends may have been cut off and hammered flat on the inside of the bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Other Roman <a title=\"VM_365 Day 109.
