Roman dish from Broadstairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1592\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/VM-104.jpg\" alt=\"VM 104\" width=\"600\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s VM_365 image is another of the vessels from the<a title=\"VM 365 Day 45 Roman Broadstairs 2 \u2013 Roman building at Fort House\" href=\"http:\/\/thanetarch.co.uk\/journal\/?p=1228\" target=\"_blank\"> Roman Kitchen at Fort House, Broadstairs,<\/a> a flanged dish, around 23cm in diameter. The vessel is made in a black fabric, at a time when Late Iron Age grog tempering potting methods were moving toward a more Romanised \u2018Native Coarse Ware\u2019 fabric tradition. This dish is likely to date between c.150 to 200 AD.<\/p>\n<p>The interior of the dish has been polished to a sheen and then divided into quarters by a burnished cross. Most of the dish is present and a large part of it can be seen on the surface of the pottery dump in the centre of the picture published on<a title=\"VM_365 Day 98.
